Beyond its tank-like appearance, the A-BAT hides a versatile cargo box that stretches over 2 meters long. Unlike traditional pickup trucks, it benefits from a unibody construction. This concept is hailed as the brand's new compact pickup.
Closer to production, the upcoming Venza crossover also made its official debut. This 5-seat people hauler will be built in Kentucky was specifically designed for our market. It will receive a 3.5-liter V6 that develops 268 horsepower and 246 lb-ft of torque, mated to a 6-speed sequential automatic. It will also host standard-equipment 20-inch wheels, a first for a Toyota vehicle.
According to Toyota, the Venza offers the drive of the Camry, the luxury of an Avalon and the power of a sports car. The crossover will be available in front-wheel and all-wheel drive versions, but the price and sale date have not yet been announced. A variation of the Venza with a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder and 19-inch wheels will be introduced afterwards.
The Japanese auto giant also chose the NAIAS to formally introduce its 2009 Corolla, Matrix and Sequoia, three models that will come to market in the next few weeks.
