According to interview published in Autosport magazine, Mario Theissen has revealed that BMW could move from the World Touring Car Championship to the DTM.

Last week, BMW announced its withdrawal from Formula 1. BMW board member Klaus Draeger, and motorsport director, Mario Theissen, spoke about their future in the touring car. The German manufacturer is seeking other alternatives to WTCC, and may return in the DTM.

The DTM series has recently announced the freeze of the technical development of the cars until the end of 2010 before switching to a totally new car in 2011.

BMW would join Mercedes-Benz and Audi, two makes that have been involved in the DTM series for years.

" WTCC is part of the touring car spectrum, told Theissen to Autosport magazine. It is no secret that we aren't particularly happy about the developments last year and this year, but no decision has been made. In any case, we will be present in touring car racing, both with works-supported programmes and in customer competition. We could also imagine other future projects, which we are not ready to talk about yet. "
