Bruno Spengler (C Class Mercedes) took his second season win at Norisring while the race was red-flagged 20 laps before the end due to heavy rain in Nüremberg.

The qualifying session was ran on a dry track, but it started to rain on Sunday morning. It was raining so much that the start of the race had to be given under yellow flags, behind the safety car.

Bruno Spengler was able to stay in front at the restart. After an optimal strategy and perfect pit stops, the Canadian driver was back in first position with a 4 seconds gap ahead of teammate Jamie Green.

But the rain was getting heavier, and officials had no other choice that to red-flag the race, due to very difficult visibility and grip conditions.

Spengler therefore lead a 1-2 finish for Mercedes, as Jamie Green took second place. His teammate Gary Paffett (Mercedes), who started from second place, had to retire earlier in the race after slamming a wall at a chicane.

Martin Tomczyk finished in third place, which is a good result considering that the German driver, who was leading the championship before the Norisring, started from 10th place on the grid.

However, Tomczyk did lose the championship lead, and now stands in second, three points behind Bruno Spengler.

David Coulthard (Mercedes) scored his first point this season with an 8th place finish.

"That was a great race, Spengler told Auto123.com. The strategy was perfect and my crew guided me well during the race. That’s a great result, especially in such difficult conditions.

"In the car, it was quite difficult and, at the end, I was only driving my 90% because it was quite dangerous. There was aquaplaning ever behind the safety car. The decision to stop the race was the good one."
