During the evening, I played host for a Mercedes-Benz sponsored gala attended by the media and dealers from the Berlin area. A team presentation and a short film summarizing our season so far were on the program.
I didn’t know that the fastest driver from the qualification would be chosen to not only host the party, but also to orchestrate interviews with the drivers and introduce the film. Of course, I was nervous at first, but I kept things cool and it all went pretty well after all…
Come race time on Sunday, I got a very good start from the third row on the grid. Unfortunately, I soon found myself sandwiched between the Audis of Mike Rockenfeller and Oliver Jarvis. I lost a bit of time and dropped one place.
The rest of the race was kind of tough for me. I was the only driver from the top 10 with no remaining set of new tires - I had used them all during the qualifying sessions. Yet another misfortune; after all, the Oschersleben track is highly demanding on tires. I did manage to keep pace, though.
At the end of the last pit stop, I was 7th and closing in on Jarvis. He made a mistake and I took advantage of it to overtake him. I got pushed onto the grass, but I held on tight and maintained my 6th place. For the last 10 laps, the goal was to secure my position at the finish line. I earned three important points and gained new confidence for the upcoming race at the Nürburgring, where we’ll be only 10-kilogram heavier than the Audis…
I currently sit fourth in the standings, five points behind the leader. The battle for the championship will be extremely fierce down the line - everything's possible.
See you soon!"
