Following the last lap incidents at the Spanish round of the DTM series between Mattias Ekstrom (Audi) and AMG Mercedes Jamie Green last Sunday, the reigning champion (Ekstrom) has been disqualified from the race while Green has been given a 30 seconds penalty.
The two made contact several times on the final lap of the race while fighting over fifth position. The first incident happened at the first corner, where Ekstrom tried to pass Green but tagged him into a spin.
The stewards had already penalised Ekstrom 50 seconds and decided afterwards to exclude him from the meeting for his second offence, and fined him 5000 euros.
Green's penalty means that he will be classified in 8th place rather than the 7th.
