Lamborghini will definitely play a part in Volkswagen's plan to overtake Toyota and become the best-selling automaker in the world by 2018. We've known for quite some time that the Italian brand was set to add a third model to its exotic lineup, but no one really knew what to expect... until today.
Whether executives choose the Estoque sedan or a super SUV, the vehicle will be a four-seater that allows VW Group to grab market shares in uncharted terrain.
Which option is the best? Lamborghini still isn't sure. Engineers are going to be heavily examining and testing both body configurations this summer. Whichever model gets the green light, it will be ''decidedly different from what has come before'', insiders say.
Judging from the preliminary specs for the SUV, we would have to agree. The V12-powered 4x4 will sport the general stance of the BMW X6, including a sloping roofline. It's also expected to have only two passenger doors and deliver performance on par with the Ferrari FF.
As a modern, less controversially-styled interpretation of the iconic LM002, the new Lamborghini SUV would likely retail for around $425,000.
