Blasting Ford into the market's most popular segment is the job of the upcoming Flex- a hauler that the automaker says will redefine the modern family journey. Featuring segment exclusive technologies, striking style and advanced engineering, the company's latest crossover will build on the current success of the Lincoln MKX and Ford Edge when it goes on sale this summer.
Flex will be available with some surprising features- including a refrigerated second-row centre console, capless fuel system and Vista Roof, which allows all occupants to take in the sunshine. There's available programmable ambient lighting, and a personal jukebox capable of holding well over 23,000 songs as well. Ford's determined that no matter what your need in a family hauler, there will be a Flex that's a perfect fit for your driveway.
Flex will optionally house Ford's second-generation Keypad system, allowing owners to unlock the vehicle or activate its lights by keying in a code via buttons integrated within B-pillar. Rather than traditional keys, the updated system uses heat-sensors and back-lit keys which are fully concealed. Navigation, a backup-camera and Ford Sync help to round out the Flex's high-tech offerings.
Power will come from a 3.5 litre V6 engine with over 260 horsepower, handled by a performance and mileage enhancing six-speed automatic transmission and available all wheel drive. A full complement of safety features backs up the performance, including stability control and tire-pressure monitoring.
Flex will be built at Ford's Oakville assembly complex in Ontario, with pricing announced closer to its on-sale date.
