"Pérez reported feeling unwell after the first free practice session. His illness could be a consequence of the accident he suffered in Monaco," said the press release.

Sebastian Vettel was back in action after his Red Bull got repaired following the morning’s accident.

Sebastian Vettel set the fastest time early in the session, but he got beaten by Alonso. The running order was Alonso, Vettel, Felipe Massa (Ferrari) and Lewis Hamilton (McLaren).

The session was red flagged for a first time after Kamui Kobayashi crashed his Sauber in the wall out Turn 4.

A few minutes later, it was red flagged again after Jerome d’Ambrosio hit the same Turn 4 wall in his Virgin!

Fernando Alonso ended the day with a time of 1:15.107, 0.369 second faster than Vettel.

Felipe Massa finished third ahead of Hamilton, Jenson Button (McLaren), Paul di Resta (Force India), Mark Webber (Red Bull Racing) and Vitaly Petrov (Lotus Renault GP).

The two Mercedes GP W02s had a disastrous afternoon. After Nico Rosberg set the fastest time this morning, he and his teammate Michael Schumacher were 19th and 20th respectively this afternoon, behind the two Team Lotuses of Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli!

According to our sources, the Merrcedes engineers were forced to change the planning of the tests because of the two red flags.
