Formula 1 drivers have asked the FIA a clarification of the weaving rule after Lewis Hamilton was caught weaving on the straight in front of Vitaly Petrov in Malaysia and escaped without a penalty.

Hamilton was only given a black-and-white warning flag.

Drivers asked Charlie Whiting, FIA race director, to punish anyone weaving on the straight during a race with a drive-through penalty.

Speaking with members of the medias in Shanghai, China, Williams driver Rubens Barrichello said: "The drivers have an agreement, sort of an agreement - obviously a verbal agreement, nothing that has been signed - that you should move only once during the protection of your line. For me it was a Formula Ford thing. It shouldn't have been done, to be honest."

During Friday afternoon's regular meeting with Charlie Whiting in Shanghai, the drivers moved to clarify the regulation allowing only one move to defend their position.

After the meeting, Lotus driver Jarno Trulli told Autoport reporter that Hamilton's driving was not "a big story" and that his case was being used as a means to clarify the regulation.
