Felipe Massa (Ferrari) told Autosport, he still doesn't understand why he was handed a drive-through penalty by the stewards, following his latest on-track altercation with Lewis Hamilton.

In 2011, they touched in six occasions. The most famous being Monaco and Singapore – where Hamilton was deemed responsible, the latest being at the Indian Grand Prix – where Massa received the penalty.

“To be honest I don't understand why I have the penalty. It is not really understandable,” the Brazilian said.

Even though he didn't have to take the heat for the incident this time, Hamilton didn't need yet another wake-up call, in an up and down season, out-weighed by the downs.

Neither did Massa actually. Since his second place in the 2008 drivers' championship, the 30-year-old hasn't been able to get a grip on his career. He suffered a life-threatening accident in Hungary in 2009, and has had two difficult seasons in the shadow of Fernando Alonso since. Ferrari confirmed he would be back next year, but beyond 2013, his future with the Maranello outfit is uncertain.

Although the Ferrari driver is adamant he does not hold a grudge against Hamilton, he still thinks he was in his right to take the normal line, going into Turn 5 of lap 24.

“I know he was on my side. But when I braked, this is the important place, not when you are on the straight. When I braked, he was not on my side. So, I turned because I braked later than him. I cannot understand why I am supposed to back off and let him by, no?”
