The 1min22.030s time set by the Finn stood as the new benchmark when the final pre-season checkered flag fell in Barcelona.
His form, following good showings by his Lotus teammate Romain Grosjean earlier in the week, seem to indicate the strong pace of the E20, and that the Enstone factory has bounced back from its chassis debacle.
However, Raikkonen's race simulation pace was still shy of Lewis Hamilton's, who, in the McLaren MP4-27, showed the best race speed.
Aboard the Ferrari F2012, Fernando Alonso was able to climb up to second in the times, some two tenths short of Raikkonen, even though at the moment, Ferrari admits their lack in pace.
"I am disappointed by our performance level at the moment," said on Autosport.com, Pat Fry, the Scuderia's technical chief. "I think we've got a lot of work to do.
Bruno Senna aboard his Williams-Renault FW34 rounded up the top 3, with a time posted in the morning, before being replace by teammate Pastor Maldonado. The Venezuelan had enough laps to be clocked ninth fastest.
Nico Hulkenberg held on to fourth for Force India, ahead of troubled Kamui Kobayashi. The Japanese caused to stop the session, when his Sauber's Ferrari engine failed.
Russian Vitaly Petrov also delayed the session, having had an off in his Caterham, closer to the end of the day.
Seven time world champion Michael Schumacher managed eighth aboard his Mercedes W03. The good showing of the silver arrows made Ross Brawn "confident", again according to Autosport, that team can move forward. In no way they were worried by the tire degradation they suffered from.
At the bottom of the timesheet are Daniel Ricciardo (Toro Rosso) and, surprisingly, two-time world champion Sebastian Vettel. In his revised RB8, the German covered only 23 laps of running, limited by a bad gear box, and troubled by an off that caused the front wing to break.
Using the filming day regulations, HRT's F112 car will finally take to track. Narain Karthikeyan will be allowed to cover 100 km, albeit on demonstration Pirelli tires.
