Lotus F1 Team’s director of communication and group brand director has been fired for a controversial tweet sent last February.

Prior to the opening ceremonies of the Sochi Olympic Games, a tweet was send on Lotus F1 Team’s official account, wishing good games to all gay athletes.

The message was quickly deleted and the team apologized for this “non-official” tweet.

It must be reminded that the Lotus team had just welcomed at the time a new business partner, Yota - a Russian mobile broadband services provider and smartphone manufacturer.

Our former fellow journalist Stephane Samson admitted he was the one who sent the infamous tweet.

He wrote this morning on his personal Facebook page:

“Just been officially told I was sacked from my Group Brand Director position at Lotus F1 Team because of my supporting tweet towards gay athletes at Sochi”.
