Here is our photo gallery of the first two free practice sessions of the Grand Prix of Malaysia held on the Sepang circuit near Kuala Lumpur.

Australian Mark Webber of the Red Bull Racing team set the fastest time in both sessions.

“We look okay, but it’s still early days in a race weekend. We got some dry running in and the car performed well. It was reliable, which is always a nice bonus. We got to check all the tires – including the new tyre that Pirelli brought here. It’s very hot. We need to look at the information we got today, but so far so good for us,” said Webber.

The McLaren drivers performed well. Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton finished second and third respectively in the second session.

“Actually, everyone appears to have been struggling with rear grip today,” said Button.

“The tires feel very different from those we had in Melbourne. It’s very tricky, but that’s what we saw in winter testing, so we have good experience with that.”

“The track conditions are massively different compared with the cold conditions we experienced in Australia, so the tires don’t last as long. Maybe Sunday will see a three-stop race,” Hamilton indicated.

Seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher finished his day of work in fifth place in his Mercedes W02.

The German team said that Schumacher and Nico Rosberg used the P1 session to complete a series of aerodynamic evaluations.

The focus for P2 was an in-depth study of the hard and soft tire compounds available for this weekend and set-up work was also completed in preparation for racing in the challenging temperature conditions.
