Saturday and Sunday: Keeping everything under control
“On Saturday, once the teams have collected the cars after qualifying when the FIA technical verifications have been carried out, I analyse the oil again. If we find a problem then some corrective action can be taken, but the FIA regulations are pretty strict. If my diagnosis reveals a major problem the engineers may decide to change the engine,” he explained.
“As far as the race is concerned, I carry out an analysis before the start and another at the finish to judge the evolution of the engine. We rarely leave the circuit before 10pm as we have to pack away the equipment and write reports for Total and for Renault Sport F1. The next day it’s back to Givors in France where Total Additives and Special Fuels are based,” Planck concluded.
