Sahkir
It was another frustrating day in Sahkir as weather conditions continued to hamper running time at the Bahrain International Circuit. Following yesterday's sandstorm there was still a lot of dust in the air. The teams were allowed out for slow speed installation laps in the morning but after that running was suspended because the medical helicopter was unable to fly between the track and the nearest hospital.
No times were recorded (teams Ferrari, Toyota and BMW-Sauber)
Jerez
Contrary to Sahkir, it was a warm and sunny day in Jerez, Spain. Frenchman Sébastien Bourdais set the fastest time of the day, driving the 2008 Ferrari-powered Toro Rosso. Reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton (McLaren) set the fastest time of the 2009 machinery.
Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull ranked third, just 0.001 second behind Hamilton.
Fernando Alonso set the slowest time in the Renault, a confirmation that there is something wrong with the new R29. However, Alonso said it was his first full dry day in the car and the team will start working on the set-up.
