The future site of the Grand Prix de France has not been decided yet. Bernie Ecclestone made it clear that F1 would not return to Magny-Cours after this year. Building a new race track near Paris has proved to be more problematic than expected. The answer to these hurdles could be to stage the race in southern France on the Paul Ricard HTTT.

Gérard Neveu, the director of the famed track mentioned in a press release: "We started playing with the idea of organizing the French GP a few days ago," he said.

"The HTTT has been granted a Grade 1 sanction by the FIA, which means it can stage a Grand Prix."

Neveu mentioned that the idea of staging the French Grand Prix on the Paul Ricard circuit became more than just a dream when grandstands were built last winter, and the track was reopened to competition and not just for private testing.

"All projects of building a new track around Paris are facing difficulties. We would be interested in organizing the race if five conditions could be met. First condition, the track must be homologated for F1 racing by the FIA (which was done by Charlie Whiting last week). Secondly, there must be a strong interest from the fans. Then, the environment can be well protected. Forth condition: Bernie Ecclestone must show interest. Finally, the organizers must not lose money."

Neveu indicated that all five conditions must be met before a decision can be taken. But if they are, the Paul Ricard HTTT will undoubtedly submit its proposal to the authorities of Formula 1.
