Fisker Automotive Inc. will launch an interesting new hybrid sports sedan this year at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). The Fisker plug-in Hybrid Sedan will be on display alongside a solar-powered recharging station which was developed in conjunction with Asola Advanced and Automotive Solar Systems, a German expert in advanced solar power.

Fisker hopes to eventually provide 15,000 units a year to customers looking for an environmentally responsible luxury automobile. The car is set to go on sale initially late next year.

The high-performance hybrid drive system will be supplied by Quantum for the Fisker Hybrid Sedan, as well as all future models. The system is capable of up to 50 miles of zero emissions driving, though a gasoline engine is installed to enhance performance and driving range.

There's even an optional roof-mounted solar panel which can help recharge the batteries and run vehicle accessories using nothing more than good old fashioned sunlight as the power source.

"The new Fisker Hybrid sports sedan, which incorporates Quantum's proprietary Q-Drive system, will change the way we look at the automotive world," said Alan Niedzwiecki, the President and CEO of Quantum. "Featuring the design aesthetic of Henrik Fisker, world renowned automotive designer of the Aston Martin DB9 and V8 Vantage and BMW Z8, the Fisker Hybrid premium sports sedan provides discerning environmentally conscious consumers with no compromise of performance or luxury together with its energy efficient, low emission signature."
