Ford launched a new website, FordImages.com, allowing enthusiasts and car collectors to view and purchase thousands of images dating to the earliest days of its storied brand.
Right now, more than 5,000 photos, prints, vintage signs and advertisements are up for sale. Hundreds of more classic images are being added weekly with another 5,000 to be added by the end of 2011.
All these precious items come from approximately 16,000 boxes, 75 file cabinets and hundreds of CDs at Ford Archives in Dearborn, Michigan.
Dean Weber, manager of Ford Archives, sifted through the entire collection before scanning, identifying and putting the images online. ''The entire world of Ford culture is here,'' he said. ''These images represent the very special place Ford has in not only American history but world history.''
The new website receives about 500 visitors daily. Car enthusiasts and dealers are some of the biggest early customers.
