On September 28th and 29th, Ford sponsored the fifth annual AltWheels Festival in Boston. The blue-oval automaker took this opportunity to show off the new alternative fuel solutions it plans on putting forward over the next few years. Among them were the Ford HySeries Edge, the world's first drivable fuel cell plug-in vehicle, the Ford Escape E85 Hybrid, a hybrid electric vehicle that runs on ethanol, and the Mercury Mariner Hybrid.

Earlier this year, Ford and Southern California Edison announced a collaboration to explore ways to commercialize plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV). The manufacturer also offers Partial Zero Emissions Vehicles (PZEV), including the 2008 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Ford Focus. These vehicles produce zero gasoline evaporative emissions, and tailpipe emissions are reduced by more than 80 percent compared to the 2007 model year vehicles. They are so clean, actually, you could drive over 2,000 miles (3,220 kilometers) to equal the emissions produced by a 5.4-hp lawnmower in just one hour of use.

The Ford exhibit at AltWheels offered an opportunity for people to see some of the company's alternative fuels work on the road now and as possible solutions for the future.
