Ford shows off Transit Connect taxi and 2009 Warriors in Pink Mustang in New York

What better place than New York to flaunt a taxi concept vehicle. Ford's upcoming Transit Connect delivery vehicle offers a sizeable amount of passenger and luggage space in a small and economical footprint. With its 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and automatic transmission, the Transit is said to improve a traditional taxi's (read: beat-up Crown Vics and Impalas) fuel consumption by 30 percent.

Like a crowded city that expands upwards instead of horizontally, the Transit Connect relies on its high roof to accommodate three rear-seat passengers and 75 cubic feet (2,125 L) of cargo space.

The Taxi Concept's designers opted for what they call a more modern hue that blends gray fender flares and bumpers with the taxi-traditional yellow paint job. An illuminated bubble on the Transit's roof glows a green color is the cab is available, or orange if it's occupied. The Cab driver benefits from Ford's Work Solutions computer, which is available in the Super Duty pickup.

Ford also announced that the 2009 Mustang will continue to offer a Warriors in Pink edition to raise money for breast cancer research. For each Warriors in Pink Mustang sold, Ford will donate $300, twice the amount they contributed for each of the 1,000 copies purchased in 2008.

The 2009 edition will be available in V6 coupe and convertible versions, and will sport a unique grille as well as pink striping and badging. Exterior colors include black, silver and white. The coupe can be ordered with the new glass roof that is optional on 2009 Mustangs. Inside, the cars get pink stitching on the leather seats, steering wheel and floor mats.

Look for the pink Mustangs in dealers this summer.
