Formula 1 has changed dramatically over the past 30 years. In the early ‘80s, the sport was still relatively affordable for a small organization. Let’s look at the way things were back then.

Around this time last year, Auto123.com visited the impressive, space age McLaren Technology Centre located in Woking, England.
The centre houses the McLaren F1 team, the road car assembly line, the wind tunnel, the machining department, the offices and more. The building's 57,000 square metres of office space are home to the majority of the McLaren Group's 900 employees, an area large enough to hold nine Boeing 747 jumbo jets.

What a stunning contrast with Team Lotus’ Ketteringham Hall castle from the 15th century in Hethel, and Tyrrell’s old shop and original wood shed in Long Reach, Ockham, UK.
“I joined Tyrrell in 1986 and then spent a few years in the U.S. working as an engineer at Penske Racing. I went back to work for Tyrrell in 1994 before returning to the U.S. with Penske,” Nigel Beresford told Auto123.com.
