In San Francisco on July 10th, one of the biggest sport shows will take place and with it, the introduction of an upcoming GM product: the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid.
Actually, as of July 6th, the All-Star Fan Zone will have a Malibu Hybrid on display for all to see. The new and massively-improved Malibu sees its option list enlarged with the addition of GM's Hybrid system. It consists of a unique 36-volt electric motor/generator mated to a 2.4L Ecotec VVT four-cylinder engine and a Hydra-Matic 4T45 four-speed transmission.
Combined output is rated at 164 hp and 159 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is expected at an EPA rating of 24 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. This represents a 2-mpg increase over the non-hybrid four-cylinder Malibu.
Malibu Hybrid production begins in October at GM's Spring Hill, Tennessee and will be available in dealerships soon after.
