The Toyota Camry has another great big trophy to add to its collection. The popular sedan was recently named 2007 Car of the Year by Motor Trend, one
of North America's most well respected automotive authorities.
The current generation Camry was launched last spring with a major redesign and available Hybrid model powered by Toyota's industry leading Hybrid Synergy Drive. The Hybrid carries an EPA estimate of 38 highway MPG from its combined 187 horsepower drive system.
Along with the new technology came a new athletic look which many critics say was long overdue. The new model boasts more interior space and unique performance enhancements as well.
Camry has been America's best selling passenger car for eight out of the past nine years, but that doesn't mean its getting tired- as this year, it beat out nearly 30 vehicles from numerous other segments. These included machines from Jaguar, Porsche, Volkswagen and Volvo.
Several factors including design, value, innovation, performance, safety, advancement, quality and overall market significance were considered. All
models were also evaluated on a skid-pad to measure grip, tested on a quarter-mile track and put through their paces to determine overall driveability and real-world fuel economy.
The Camry offers exceptional value, as witnessed by its sales figures. Year to date sales figures in 2006 are nearly 375,000 units.
The success is nothing new to the top-rated Japanese carmaker, as the Camry's win marks the third time in four years that one of its products has claimed the coveted top prize from Motor Trend.
