Today is full of excitement and anticipation for the team at General Motors, as they introduced the new Silverado and Sierra full-sized pickup trucks to the media earlier this morning. The launch event was presented live on the internet from GM's Milford Proving Grounds.

The trucks represent two of GM's best-selling vehicles and are said to be among the most important that the automaker will launch this year. Silverado and Sierra are planned to follow on the success of the full-sized SUV launch from earlier this year. Both machines are built on a new platform, and are to be an integral part of a turnaround plan which aims to gear the company up for future success in the very competitive full-sized truck market.

GM is excited about the exterior re-styling, though they are most proud of what is below the skin. Among the highlights for the new models are extended performance in regard to economy, power, towing and payload. A long-needed interior update is also present, as are up-to-date features including back-up sensors, adjustable pedals and navigation systems.

Has the new design on the Silverado and Sierra gone far enough to raise the bar? Only time will tell.
