General motors recently reported record breaking sales in China for the first nine months of 2006, selling 645,680 vehicles. Buick brand sales growth experienced an increase of nearly 28 percent, while Chevrolet led the sales growth with a 51 percent increase. Wuling, China's number one brand of mini vehicles, experienced a healthy increase of nearly 39

percent.

Prompted by the success, GM will introduce several new models at Auto China 2006, an international auto show in Beijing. Shanghai GM will showcase the new Cadillac SLS and Escalade luxury models. Additionally, an important new offering from Wuling will be unveiled alongside concept cars like the Saab Aero-X, Buick Enclave and Chevrolet WTCC Ultra.

Since introduced to China in 2004, Cadillac has enjoyed strong sales. The American-based carmakers portfolio for China consists of the CTS sedan, XLR Roadster and Escalade SUV.

Based on the STS sport sedan, the new SLS has been lengthened by 100 mm with the goal of adding more room for rear-seat passengers. Interior changes have also been implemented to cater to the market's primarily

chauffer driven customers.

Three powerplants are available for the SLS, ranging from a 2.8 litre V6 to a top of the line 320 horsepower Northstar 4.6 litre V8. The Chinese-market SLS will be built at the Shanghai GM plant.

Cadillac's General Manager Jim Taylor comments "the Cadillac SLS is a very important addition to our line-up in China as it meets very specific market needs. Cadillac reacts to country specific requirements and is proud to offer the SLS to Chinese luxury customers who demand extra space in the rear and other features."

The new GM offerings in China led by the SLS will certainly serve to strengthen their position in the market, while carrying forward their international presence as leaders in luxury and technology.
