More performance fun can now be had in a 2WD version of the Silverado SS, which actually debuted a couple of months back in the 2005 lineup. This model's based on the 1500 Series Extended Cab with a short bed powered by a high-output version of GM's Vortec 6000 V-8, which pumps out 345 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. The engine is connected to a

Hydra-Matic 4L85-E four-speed automatic overdrive transmission equipped with a 3.06 first gear and 0.70 final gear, which transfers power to a 4.10-geared locking rear axle for rapid acceleration and relaxed highway cruising.

On the GMC Sierra front, there's a new SL Crew Cab model in either 2WD or 4WD with a 5-foot, 8-inch box, in SLE or SLT trim. It's powered by the Vortec 5300 V-8, at 295 hp and 335 lb-ft of torque.

Two-wheel drive models have a GVWR of 2,812 kg, and the 4WD model has a 2903 kg GVWR. Twenty-inch wheels are available, as are the popular sunroof and manual-sliding rear window features that were introduced in 2005.

There's also a Sierra Performance Edition available on 2WD Extended Cab SLE/SLT models, which includes VortecMAX high-output Vortec 6000 V-8 with 345 hp, 20-inch wheels, a VortecMax door badge and engine cover, 3.73 rear axle, high performance suspension, HD automatic transmission, HD trailering, HD oil cooler, automatic locking differential, engine oil cooling system and traction control.

A Sierra Special Edition with 20-inch wheels is available on Extended Cab/Crew Cab models (2WD or 4WD). It comes on SLE/SLT trims and includes the Light Duty Power Package (5.3-litre V-8, automatic locking differential, HD Trailering), 3.73 rear axle, high-performance suspension, automatic climate control and steering wheel controls.

On top of all that, there are also two new exterior colors for Sierra -- Steel Gray Metallic and Stealth Gray Metallic.

Sierra and Silverado have more variables than any other vehicle in the world, so if you're even interested in a full-size pickup you can almost certainly get what you want.
