First unveiled last June with the GMC Acadia Limited, General Motors’ Rear Seat Reminder technology will be offered in 20 other 2017-2018 models from the carmaker. The system works by sending a reminder message to the driver when the engine is turned off, to advise that they should make sure no one is occupying a seat in the back row of the vehicle before they depart it.

The system activates when either of the rear doors is opened and then closed less than 10 minutes before the engine starts, as well as when the doors are opened and closed while the engines is running. It is designed to ensure that no young children are forgotten in the car when the driver departs it.

The following GM models will feature the technology:

  • 2017 Buick Lacrosse
  • 2017 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV
  • 2017 Cadillac CT6
  • 2017 Chevrolet Cruze and Cruze Hatchback
