General Motors announced yesterday that they will invest about $73 million into their Shreveport, La. truck plant in order to prepare for production of the upcoming Hummer H3T. In recent years, GM has invested well over a billion dollars into the facility, which has been opened since 1981.

The H3T Concept was unveiled in December of 2003 in Los Angeles as part of the 2004 Greater Los Angeles Auto Show.

"GM's $73-million investment in Shreveport is further proof that the community remains an important part of GM's manufacturing plan," said Troy Clarke, President of GM North America. "The H3T is unique for HUMMER because it is the brand's first true pickup. Like every HUMMER model, the H3T delivers capabilities unparalleled in the marketplace and will carve out a new niche in the truck market. I'm happy to say that the men and women of Shreveport will be a big part of this new growth."

Slotted into the size category between a mid-size and full-size truck, the H3T promises attitude, versatility and capability on any terrain. A functional truck bed resides in back, while owners can customize their machine through one of the most comprehensive personalization programs on the market.

Expect H3T to hit dealerships by the end of 2008.
