In a move to promote green technologies, the AJAC initiated its first annual Best New Green Technology award, and the winner was announced at the Montreal Auto Show.

General Motors' Two-Mode Hybrid technology was recognized as the best this year, a powertrain that consists of a 6.0-litre V8 and an electric motor that produce a combined output of 332 horsepower and 367 lb-ft of torque, while consuming just 9.8 L/100 km in the city. The system is currently available in the Chevrolet Tahoe and Silverado, the GMC Yukon and Sierra as well as in the Cadillac Escalade. Later this year, Saturn's Vue SUV will be available with a Two-Mode Hybrid system that features a 3.6-liter V6 and 262 horsepower.

The other finalists in this inaugural year of the award were Subaru's PZEV technology and Volkswagen's TDI clean diesel technology. The award is presented by Shell Canada.
