Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado has solidified his lead in the championship with another exhibition drive to claim his third victory of the season ahead of title rival Sergio Perez and Charles Pic, with the win set up by a storming start as the lights went out to lead his rivals all race long.

Polesitter Pic has the best opportunity to slow down the Maldonado locomotive, but a poor getaway handed the Venezuelan the lead with Perez squeezing past Oliver Turvey for second place into turn one.

Sergio Perez tried put pressure on Maldonado during the first stint, but the Mexican driver was never able to find a way to pass the championship leader. Maldonado pulled away in front after his pit stop, and took another victory with a comfortable gap over Perez. Pic finally took third position, ahead of Dani Clos and Jules Bianchi.

Oliver Turvey took 8th position, which allow him to start from pole position for race 2.
