Following closely in the footsteps of the recently publicized Nagare concept vehicle, Mazda plans to introduce its newest concept, the Ryuga, at the NAIAS next month.

The Nagare, which means "flow" in Japanese, was designed to mimic the movement and exchange of natural elements within the design language of a vehicle. The same idea applies for the Ryuga- which is Japanese for "gracious flow".

What's the difference? The Ryuga takes the Nagare's design and philosophy to a new place. Using rich fabrics, hidden details and engineered fitment of panels, the Ryuga is said to be elegant and refined while carrying a spirit and underlying edginess which portrays Japanese beauty. The sketch provided hints at a swoopy looking coupe with gull-wing doors.

"Ryuga is Zoom-Zoom defined," says Laurens van den Acker, Mazda's global design director. "It combines vibrance, confidence, fun and youth all in one ingenious package."

Perhaps a little more realistic is the Mazda Tribute HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) which is Mazda's first advanced-technology vehicle for sale to the public with the focus on clean air. The Tribute HEV is one of the cleanest vehicles on the road yet it still delivers performance that SUV owners rely on for riding trails or towing.
