It was a second consecutive pole position for the No. 01 Telmex BMW Riley of veteran driver Memo Rojas Friday, at Virginia International Raceway.
Rojas and codriver Scott Pruett will be seeking for a third consecutive victory this season. They are leading the championship by 11 points.
Mark Wilkins and Burt Frisselle will start second thanks to a time of 1:42.121, 0.325 seconds slower than Rojas.
Brian Frisselle and Michael Valiante will start third in their Ford Riley. They will try to keep the car in front of defending champions and 2009 VIR winners Jon Fogarty and Alex Gurney, in fourth.
In GT, Daytona Prototype Barber pole winner Rick Taylor's younger brother Jordan will lead the pack. Taylor and codriver Todd Lamb took the pole in front of rivals Sylvain Tremblay and rookie Jonathan Bomarito.
Scott Russell and Paul Edwards complete this qualifying top-three in their Corvette.
