In the meantime, Peugeot is echoing what many other automakers are saying these days. That the use of hybrid vehicles, a diesel or gasoline-electric combination will significantly reduce the greenhouse gases that contribute to the dreadful pollution prevalent throughout global urban centers.

We won't be seeing Peugeot's hybrids around here any time soon, but their influence on the industry as a whole will be felt. (Photo: PSA Peugeot Citroën)

It's rather unlikely that we will see many of these near Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal, let alone a small town like Drayton Valley, in the near future. But the advancements made by Peugeot-Citroën and their commitment to environmental initiatives will effect the industry as a whole, with that all important capitalistic concept; competition.

"On hydrogen power, we've reached the point of no return. It will happen." (Photo: PSA Peugeot Citroën)

For example, Peugeot-Citroën is launching more and more vehicles, starting in 2004, with a stop-start engine ignition device. Reminiscent of the Auto-Stop feature in the 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid, this stop-start feature also reduces pollution by eliminating tailpipe emissions while stopped in traffic or at a stop light. Believe me, a brilliant idea that should have happened years ago.

PSA Peugeot- Citroën's strategic partner, CEA, or the Atomic Energy Centre, in France, stated something rather Geoffrey Ballard sounding, "On hydrogen power, we've reached the point of no return. It will happen."
