Less than 24 hours before the opening of the Copenhagen summit on global warming, the first race of zero-carbon vehicles was held in France as part of the prestigious Trophee Andros ice racing series.

After two years of technological development, the first fully electric race car was put to the track this past weekend on the ice circuit of Val Thorens in the French Alps.

The Andros Electric AC03 Evo 2 race car is built from a tubular chassis, powered by one electric motor that boasts the equivalent of 122 horsepower, fed by lithium-ion batteries with a total weight of 800 kilos in running condition.

Several experienced drivers, including Franck Lagorce, Stéphane Ortelli, former F1 World Champion Alain Prost and his son Nicolas will participate in the ice racing series for clean vehicles.

Eight cars took part in the opening round in Val Thorens last weekend.

Jean-Baptiste Dubourg captured victory, winning two of the three heats. Olivier Pernaut won the other race.

Dubourg leads the standings with 42 points, followed by Marlène Broggi (42 pts) and Olivier Pernaut (40 pts).
