All indications are that German manufacturer Continental does not have a "specific" tire to offer to Canadian motorists with an electric vehicle. However, it is already marketing the Ecocontact 6 model for very high-end cars (with 55, 45, 40 and 35 rims) at a relatively high price ranging from $300 to over $550. According to Continental, this is an ecological product developed in Germany that has only a slight rolling resistance and would not produce as much CO2, a restriction that is not yet developed here.
This special tire from Italian manufacturer Pirelli is already well known to car enthusiasts in Canada. In fact, this is exactly the type of tire that will be found on the wheels of the Porsche Taycan. For the moment, the PZero All Season Elect and its performance counterpart, the PZero Z4 Elect, are only available in 20- and 21-inch wheel sizes and are still ultra-high performance tires. However, this kind of product is always indicative of what is currently being studied in the labs of such a manufacturer for more mass-market products.
South Korean tire manufacturer Nexen offers, at least for now, only one tire for electric cars, the N'Blue EV. In Canada, it's currently only available in one size: 205/60 R-16 (it was reportedly first created for the Kia Soul EV). This would be the tire that Kia says provides the best fuel economy performance (although the car would work just fine with another equivalent tire, just without being as economical). As expected, the main features are low rolling resistance and a reinforced body to better support the torque of the electric motor. Incidentally, it is reasonably priced at around $150.
