Tires for drivers on a budget...
Of course, many readers expect us to recommend discount tires. Let's just say that there’s no shortage of choices in this area. All you have to do is look through the ads, coupons and incentives to see what’S out there, and you can pick what you need from there.
From where we sit, some brands are definitely worth looking at, especially those that are derived from the big brands (such as Bridgestone's Firestone, Goodyear's Cooper, Michelin's BF Goodrich and Uniroyal and Continental's General) or those, while often more expensive than the bargain-basement brands, that have already proven themselves. We’re thinking here of GT Radial, Toyo, Yokohama and the like. However, we still have some reservations about Chinese tires (whose prices have increased recently). While quality is by all accounts improving with these products, they remain just too unproven in real-world, Canadian use.

High performance tires...
When it comes to high performance or VERY high-performance tires, it’s best to consult very specialized publications, as they often feature on-track comparisons. This type of exercise requires special conditions that, unfortunately, are not necessarily within our purview.
Thank you to the consultants at Premier Choix tires for their technical assistance.
