Here’s our guide to the best winter tires available this season

Michelin X-Ice Xi3

Many motorists swear by Michelin, and only Michelin. The French manufacturer is known for producing good-quality tires that are also durable in most cases. Its go-to tire for winter is the X-Ice Xi3, which enjoys a solid reputation for its abilities on icy roads (thus tailor-made for Canada, we’d say!).

On the down side, their big weakness comes to the fore when on deeper snow, on cars that don’t have all-wheel drive. Plus, like most of the tires described here in fact, they become significantly less effective on thick, wet snow, as their grooves fill easily and can’t easily evacuate the dreaded slush. Here again, the Michelin X-Ice Xi3 is among the more expensive models on the market.
