The NASCAR Sprint Cup teams moved from the Las Vegas Motor Speedway to the California Speedway in Fontana for more testing. It was not warmer but the track is longer (2 miles vs. 1.5 miles for Las Vegas) and the Cars Of Tomorrow never ran there.

What's more, some early evening testing under the spotlight was even scheduled. The teams were allowed to four of the five test sessions so teams might elect to leave early on Friday.

In the morning session, it was again a Toyota that was the fastest. As a matter of fact, Denny Hamlin posted the fastest speed (182.523 mph) with his No 11B Camry and then he posted the second fastest speed (181.800 mph) with his No 11 A Camry!

Ryan Newman ran the third fastest speed (181.511 mph) with his No 12A Dodge. Jacques Villeneuve went 177.266 mph with his No 27B Camry and that was the 49th fastest speed.

As for Pat Carpentier, he could only do the 55th fastest speed (176.324 mph) with his No 10B Dodge but he learned a lot when he brushed the wall. Damage was mostly cosmetic.

In the afternoon, Jeff Gordon (Chevy No 24A) was the fastest at 180.505 mph followed by Carl Edwards (Ford no 99A at 179.888) and David Reutimann (Camry No 00 at 179.703 mph).

Villeneuve ran the 40th speed with his No 27A Camry at 176.674 mph while Pat went 175.575 mph with his No 10B Dodge for the 52nd fastest speed. He also was dead last with his No 10A car!

In Vegas, Nationwide teams continued testing and Johnny Benson (Camry) was the fastest both in the morning and afternoon sessions. Steve Wallace was third in the afternoon now driving a Chevrolet. No Canadians ran there. There were 31 cars on the track.
