According to Motor Authority, the Honda Civic may add the Type R engine to its North American lineup as early as next spring for the 2016 model year. The information was first reported by MotoryRacing.

While the global Civic Type R won't be sold here (too bad), its 276-horsepower, inline 4-cylinder turbocharged engine will be adapted to our market. Motor Authority even claims that output could be increased to 320 horsepower.

Another rumour suggests that the next-generation Honda CR-Z could be the one to get the Type R engine first.

As you know, Ford and Volkswagen have dominated the sport compact segment for many years, so Honda is looking for a way to end their reign. Time will tell if it succeeds.
