Out of Japan, a piece of news that will greatly please the many fans of the Honda brand: the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback will make its much anticipated debut this coming fall.

Derived from the European version, the new sporty hatchback will also serve as the base of the new Type R performance edition, which is set to debut in spring 2017. Worldwide production for the model will be at the carmaker’s Swindon plant in England.

Honda is offering its reborn hatchback with a 4-cylinder, 1.5L turbo DOHC direct injection engine generating 174 HP in the LX version, while the Sport and Sport Touring version consumers will be seeing will up the output to 180 HP with either a 6-speed manual or CVT transmission.

The engineers at Honda also put much effort to upping the sophistication level of the platform, which will feature lighter elements, a sportier chassis, retuned steering, more powerful braking and driver assistance features like lane departure and collision warning systems.

This marketing strategy can only prove to be beneficial for the Honda brand in this country. Considering the continued success of the 2016 Honda Civic, the return of a genuine Honda hatchback is sure to make for a lot of satisfied customers in 2017. The Civic is not only the best-selling car in Canada – for the past 18 years and counting! - but Honda’s top-selling model worldwide. Last year saw it receive the highly coveted Car of the Year award from the organization of the same name.
