The 2009 Sonata will hit dealerships in a few weeks, and the midsize sedan gets a number of improvements.

Visually, the Sonata sports a new front grille as well revised bumpers, lights and wheels. Inside, the centre console and instrument panel are redesigned, inspired by the cockpit in the Veracruz.

Navigation systems with touch screens will finally be available in 2009 Hyundai products, and the Sonata will get one, too.

The two engines offered in the Sonata get power increases, thanks to new variable intake systems. The 2.4-liter 4-cylinder will produce 175 horsepower and 168 lb-ft of torque, up 13 ponies from the 2008 model. The 3.3-liter V6 gets a 15-hp increase for a total output of 249, and torque raises by 3, totalling 229 lb-ft.

The i-Blue Fuel Cell Concept is a hydrogen-powered, 4-passenger crossover. Committed to launching fuel cell vehicles within the next decade, Hyundai's i-Blue is their first-ever model designed from the ground up to incorporate that technology.

Power comes from a 136-hp electric motor and a fuel cell stack. Properly fuelled, the i-Blue is capable of running for about 600 km and exceeds 160 km/h.

According to Hyundai, the i-Blue has "the driving comfort of a sedan and the utility functions of a minivan."
