From what was once an obscure Korean carmaker struggling to take hold in North America, Hyundai Motor Co. has just been named the 75th leading brand in the world by a globally based media organization. Business Week reports the carmakers position is an increase from 84th place last year, when they first entered the list.

With a year to year gain of some 17% in overall brand value, Hyundai carved out its place as the fastest growing automotive brand, while being within the top five biggest growing brands overall for the year. According to the survey, Hyundai's brand value is an estimated 4.1 billion dollars, higher than carmakers like Porsche, Nissan and Lexus.

Brandon Yea, Hyundai V.P. of brand strategy, says "Our brand management is supported by continuous improvement in the quality of our products." Proud of the accomplishment, he adds "the survey shows us what many people already know: that Hyundai is a fast-rising star."

Hyundai President and CEO Steve Kelleher cites improvements in quality for the rise in consumer perception and sales. He mentions a new level of confidence in the brand from both consumers and dealers.

Hyundai currently employs nearly 70,000 people and sells vehicles in 193 countries.
