Pole sitter Victor Garcia (Team Moore), making his second start in the No. 22 TMR-Xtreme Coil Drilling car, held off Andretti Autosport’s Stefan Wilson for 36 laps to win the Indy Lights event in Alabama.
Garcia and Wilson also dueled in the season opener on the streets of St. Petersburg on March 27 with a different result. Their cars tangled on the first lap and Garcia, who started seventh, wound up 15th. Wilson, who started fourth, fell to 16th.
Peter Dempsey, who started eighth in the No. 36 Pulse/02 Racing car, finished third and Jorge Goncalvez advanced 10 positions to fourth in the No. 4 Beladi Auto Racing Special.
Canadian Mikael Grenier, who was starting from 10th on the grid, was fifth in the No. 63 Cell Safety/02 Racing entry. and Newgarden rallied to grab sixth in the No. 11 Robo-Pong/Sam Schmidt Motorsports car.
