Dario Franchitti (Ganassi) took a dominant win at the Milwaukee Mile and moved up the standings to end up in first place along with Will Power (Penske).

The IndyCar Series current champion led most of the race but still had to contempt with the pressure imposed upon him by both Helio Castroneves (Penske) and Tony Kanaan (KV Racing Technology).

For most of the race, the three veterans shared the lead at one time or another but the two Brazilians began to experience some problems; first with Kanaan spinning into the wall with 29 laps to go, and Castroneves having to pit with a deflating tire, leaving him ninth at the flag.

The young Graham Rahal (Ganassi) who had a strong run all day was at the right place at the right time and took second.

Another rider who was battling with the leaders, Newman/Haas' Oriol Servia, managed to get his first podium of the season by taking third

Things turned out pretty good in the end for Penske's Will Power who did not expect much after falling as low as 19th at the beginning of the race but some savvy racing and some hard work made it possible for him to finish fourth in front of Andretti Autosport's Danica Patrick.

Canadian James Hichcliffe (Newman Haas Racing) finished a strong 6th while Alex Tagliani (Sam Schmidt Motorsports) was happy to close the book on a harsh week-end with a distant 18th place.

Doctors had allowed Simona de Silvestro, who had crashed heavily on Saturday, to take part in the race but withdrew early on.
