Formula 1 veteran, Brazilian Rubens Barrichello tested an IndyCar for the first time in his career Monday when he lapped the Sebring road course aboard Tony Kanaan's KV Racing Dallara-Chevy.
Barrichello, who contested 323 career F1 races lost his seat at Williams for 2012 to Bruno Senna.
Kanaan drove a few laps in a DW12 before letting his good friend Barrichello do the driving.
"I just hope I don't break anything for Jimmy (team owner Vasser)," joked Barrichello, 39, who is testing Monday and Tuesday
Could this exploratory mission lead to something more with the IZOD IndyCar Series?
"We'll see," Barrichello said. "I don't have anything else (competitive driving), so we'll see."
Oriol Servia (in the Lotus development car), Ryan Hunter-Reay and James Hinchcliffe (Andretti Autosport), JR Hildebrand (National Guard Panther Racing), and the Team Penske trio of Ryan Briscoe, Helio Castroneves and Will Power also were on the 1.7-mile short track configuration Monday.
Tomorrow, they'll be joined by Justin Wilson (Dale Coyne Racing), Mike Conway (A.J. Foyt Racing), Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon (Target Chip Ganassi Racing), Graham Rahal (Service Central Chip Ganassi Racing) and Charlie Kimball (Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing).
