In Texas last year, Swiss driver Simona de Silvestro was trapped in her burning race car after hitting the wall during the IndyCar race. A few weeks ago, Simona had her hands burnt for a second time when she violently hit the wall at Indianapolis.

She suffered first and second-degree burns to her hands when her Dallara turned upside down and caught fire.

De Silvestro is now getting used to the drill of having her injured hands re-taped.

She went through the drill again about 90 minutes before pulling on her gloves and climbing in the cockpit of the No. 78 Nuclear Clean Air Engery car for HVM Racing during a test session June 1 at the Milwaukee Mile.

“They’re getting better,” said de Silvestro, 22.

“Actually, I think I’m a fast healer. Pretty much the left hand is almost good, and the right hand, we’re getting there. There’s just a couple of spots where there’s still some skin missing but it’s growing back. It definitely was a lot of up and downs because of the crash, but it’s getting better,” she told IndyCar.com.

The Swiss lady and the team are preparing for three consecutive weekends of racing - the Firestone Twin 275s (two 114-lap races on June 11) at the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway oval, the Milwaukee race and the Iowa Corn Indy 250 at the 0.875-mile Iowa Speedway on June 19.

During the Milwaukee test, De Silvestro recorded 154 total laps, with a best of 22.58 seconds, according to Honda Performance Development engineers.
