As part of the activities surrounding this weekend’s 2017 Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, Formula One fans will be flocking to the city’s downtown core from June 8-10 for the Crescent Street Grand Prix Festival. An interactive exhibit at the event will initiate visitors to genuine performance via the INFINITI Project Black S, a new concept getting its Canadian premiere after making its global debut in Geneva in March.

The concept is the fruit of a collaboration between INFINITI and its Renault-Nissan partner, the Renault Sport Formula One team. Featuring exclusive F1-inspired technologies, the car explores the possibilities presented by a new category of INFINITI performance cars (carrying the Black S moniker). A main distinguishing feature is the new performance hybrid powertrain developed in close collaboration with the F1 team.

"As a premium car manufacturer and a technical partner to the Renault Sport Formula One Team, it makes sense for INFINITI to explore the possibility of bringing innovative high-performance hybrid technology to our customers," explained Stephen Lester, managing director, INFINITI Canada. "Project Black S signifies INFINITI's desire to realize higher levels of performance and driver engagement, and we are thrilled to showcase it during the upcoming 2017 Formula One Canada Grand Prix."

The hybrid powertrain includes a system for recovering electrical energy to increase power and torque, which translates into instantaneous and exceptional acceleration. Inspired by Formula One’s proven dual-hybrid system, the new technology has yet to be included in any current mass-production cars.

Design-wise, the INFINITI Project Black S concept thoroughly reinvents the Q60 Coupe, and sports distinctive, more aerodynamic lines.
