The new Infiniti QX50 Concept made its global debut yesterday at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Based on the QX Sport Inspiration last seen at the Los Angeles Auto Show, it represents the company’s vision of a next-generation midsize luxury crossover.
The QX50 Concept articulates Infiniti’s “Powerful Elegance” design language, with an original yet practical new crossover form. The cabin is described as “driver-centric and passenger-minded” while reflecting a desire to challenge conventional approaches to premium interior design.
From a technology standpoint, the Infiniti QX50 Concept is said to open the door to the future integration of Infiniti’s autonomous drive systems (in keeping with the brand’s focus on driver engagement, though, the driver will always retain ultimate control over their vehicle).
Furthermore, the QX50 Concept illustrates a potential application for an advanced 2.0L 4-cylinder Variable Compression Turbo engine (VC-Turbo), a unique technology that delivers both power and efficiency (up to 27% from a conventional V6).
