Germany, the U.K. and Russia to be First for Infiniti

It only makes sense for Nissan's successful Infiniti luxury division to be sold into Europe, especially now that Lexus is seeing success in the U.K. and the Continent.

According to a news story in the European edition of Automotive News citing Pierre Loing, general manager, product strategy and planning for Nissan Europe, Germany, the U.K. and Russia will get the Infiniti brand in 2008, just in time for a second generation G35 sedan, coupe and possible convertible, an updated FX35/45 sport utility and an unspecified sedan, which will most likely be the new M35/45.

While a new Q45 is expected before 2008, there is no word if it will be offered in Europe, but it is expected that the brand's massive QX56 sport utility won't. Also possible will be specially made vehicles for the European market.

After the first three jurisdictions get started, Nissan will launch Infiniti in additional European countries, stated Mario Canavesi, Nissan Europe vice president of sales and marketing, but no schedule has been announced.

"We are still doing market research on Europe, but we know these markets will be first," he commented to Automotive News.

The report added that Infiniti won't schedule its launch into the remaining European countries until it has allocated the right diesel engine.

Following its European expansion, Nissan plans to globalize Infiniti by adding it to Asia and other areas.
