Current champion Scott Dixon can thanks late heavy traffic for helping him take victory over Team Penske's Ryan Briscoe at the IndyCar race at the Milwaukee Mile denying the Australian with a second year in a row win.

The result puts Dixon into the championship lead for the first time this year, his second victory of the season having brought him right back to the front after a miserable start to his 2009 campaign with accidents in St Petersburg and Long Beach.

On the other hand it was a difficult week-end for Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves who, after crashing yesterday during qualifying, could only managed to finish the race, over three laps behind the leaders.

Dixon's team-mate Dario Franchitti had his turn at leading the field today but even with great pit work in the last instant of the race had to settle for third.

Graham Rahal finished fourth for Newman/Haas/Lanigan, ahead of Danica Patrick in the best of the Andretti Green cars.

Paul Tracy had a very quiet day in the AJ Foyt Dallara-Honda finishing 17th at more than 6 laps behind Dixon.
